The founder of Taco Bell, Glen Bell opened his first restaurant shortly after the Second World War.  Bell originally served hotdogs and burgers, but later developed a wider range of menu to compete with other food joints like McDonald's.  In 1962, Bell opened te first Taco Bell restaurant in California. 


1964 - The first Taco Bell franchise was opened

1975 - Founder Glen Bell resigns as Chairman

1978 - PepsiCo, Inc, buys all Taco Bell shares

1988 - Taco Bell introduces free drink refills

1991 - The "Express" businesses began

1997 - Taco Bell starts with famous advertising campaign with the talking Chihuahua
